Affiliate marketing is the process by which an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products. The affiliate simply searches for a product they wish to promote, generates a unique URL directly to that product, and earns a piece of the profit from each sale they make.
Good news! Your marketplace is already set up with all the tools needed to launch your own affiliate program.
The Affiliate Registration page has already been created for your marketplace and can be found by navigating to WP Admin (backend dashboard) > Pages > Affiliate Registration.
The slug is currently affiliate-registration but can be easily changed by selecting the quick edit option under the page name.
If you happen to delete this page by accident, simply create a new page and add this shortcode:
The default registration page requires minimal information to register:
These fields can be edited and additional fields added by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Affiliates.
We’ve created a few static (common) registration fields for you to choose from:
In the event you require additional information, you have the flexibility to create your own custom fields.
By selecting the Terms & Conditions checkbox, new affiliate registrations will be required to agree to your terms prior to submitting their registration. Many affiliate programs have their own terms & conditions. For this reason, you can create a terms & conditions page specific to your affiliates and define that page in the affiliate settings.
If you choose to review each affiliate application prior to approval, ensure to check the checkbox next to Require Registration Approval under the Affiliate Registration Settings.
If enabled, the marketplace admin will receive an ‘Affiliate Approval’ notification and have the option to approve or reject the application by selecting the icon under the Actions column found in the notification board.
Upon clicking the ‘Approve/Reject’ icon, a popup will appear containing the applicants’ information and the option to approve or reject the application.
Upon Approval, the affiliate will receive the ‘Welcome Email’.
Upon Rejection, the affiliate will receive a notification with the ‘Rejection Reason’ and the user account will be deleted from the site.
There are three automated emails sent to new applicants regarding the status of their affiliate application. Each of these email templates can be edited by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Affiliates and editing the templates at the bottom of the page.
You can manually add new affiliates to navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Affiliate > Add New.
Just as if the affiliate submitted an application and was approved, the manually added Affiliate user will receive a welcome email.
You can enable the ‘Allow Vendors to Become Affiliates’ option from Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Affiliates tab which will allow your marketplace vendors to become affiliates as well.
If enabled, a new menu labeled ‘Become Affiliate’ will become visible in their dashboard where they can register to become an affiliate or view their affiliate stats and create affiliate links if they have already registered and been approved.
The marketplace admin can manage affiliates by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Affiliate > Manage Affiliate (under the actions column of a specific user).
From here, you can update an affiliates profile, set individual affiliate commissions, and generate affiliate URL’s.
Affiliate commissions can be set and earned by the following actions:
Similar to vendor commissions, affiliate commissions can be set on three levels:
Global affiliate commissions can be set by following Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Affiliates and setting the commissions as shown in the image above.
Global affiliate commissions can be overridden by creating a specific Group (Membership) and assigning a separate set of commission payouts.
Lastly, Group (Membership) commissions can be overridden by defining commissions of an individual affiliate from the manage affiliates page.
Each affiliate will have their own unique id and URL which cannot be edited.
The unique ID of a specific affiliate can be found by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Affiliate > Manage Affiliate (under the actions column of a specific user).
The marketplace admin can generate affiliate links for any affiliate by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Affiliate > Manage Affiliate (under the actions column of a specific user). Simply enter a product URL into the URL field and select Generate.
The marketplace admin can view all affiliates and their number of referrals as well as their commissions by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Affiliate.
The marketplace admin can view all affiliates and their number of referrals as well as their commissions by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Stats (under the actions column of a specific user).
Here you will see all affiliate commissions for that specific affiliate.
Please note that all affiliate payouts are performed manually. Once an affiliate has been paid, you can mark the line item as paid in their stats dashboard.
