Shipping Overview #

The RecShare Marketplace provides you and your vendors a powerful yet flexible shipping management system for your marketplace.

Shipping Settings and Types #

The shipping types currently permitted are:

  • Shipping by zone
  • Shipping by Country
  • Shipping by weight

These shipping types can be configured globally by the marketplace admin from the Admin Dashboard but can be overwritten by vendors as per their specific store rules.

To enable shipping rules, the admin will have to enable the ‘Store Shipping’ option by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Shipping Settings.

Once the Store Shipping option is enabled, the marketplace admin can enable the desired different methods/types by selecting the checkboxes adjacent to the desired shipping types.

Enabling the shipping types above will ensure that your vendors can configure these shipping options in their stores by navigating to Settings > Shipping from their vendor dashboard.

Note that in order for a vendor to override the default marketplace shipping rules, the marketplace admin must grant access by switching the Shipping capability to On in the Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Capabilities tab. This setting can also be toggled on or off for specific memberships or individual vendors.

Shipping by Zone #

A Shipping Zone is a geographical area to which you ship items. You must first set up shipping zones, add shipping methods to those zones, then add shipping rates to those methods.

You can create as many zones as you desire and add multiple methods and rates to each zone. With RecShare, these zones must be configured globally by the marketplace admin and furthermore can be set up by vendors for their individual stores which is explained in more detail below.

Admin Settings #

The marketplace admin can enable vendors to configure their own shipping by zone by selecting the Shipping By Zone checkbox found by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Shipping.

Once Shipping By Zone has been enabled, the marketplace admin must create zones from the WP Admin panel by navigating to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Zones > Add Shipping Zone.

Upon clicking ‘Add Shipping Zone’ you will be redirected to a new page where you can add the new zone. You will be required to create a name for the zone and specify the zones regions. You will also be required to add a shipping method and ensure to select Store Shipping as this method.

Note that all of the zones set up by the marketplace admin will be visible in the vendors’ zone list as well.

Vendor Settings #

Vendors must enable the shipping option from their dashboard by following Settings > Shipping > Select ‘Enable shipping’. Note that this option will only be available to the vendors only if ‘Shipping by Zone’ has been enabled by the marketplace admin.

Once shipping has been enabled, the vendor can select the processing time it takes to ship an order and will have the option to select the Shipping by Zone shipping type that has been set globally by the marketplace admin.

Once shipping by zone type is selected, the vendor will see the same zone options that were set by the marketplace admin.

These shipping zones can be configured by the vendor as per their requirements by selecting the “Edit” option under the Zone Name column.

Upon selecting edit, the vendor will be redirected to the zone editor page where they can select specific countries, states, and zip codes (if desired) for the selected zone.

The vendor will need to add shipping methods by selecting the ‘Add Shipping Method’ option.

Upon selecting ‘Add Shipping Method’ a pop-up will appear prompting the vendor to choose from the following options.

  1. Flat rate
  2. Local pickup
  3. Free shipping

Configuring Shipping Class #

Shipping classes can be used to group similar products and are used by some shipping methods (such as Flat Rate Shipping) to provide different rates to different classes of product.

With RecShare, the marketplace admin (or store owner) can create a number of shipping classes and allow the vendors to add shipping cost in addition to the flat rate rules set by them.

Here’s how the shipping classes are configured:

The marketplace admin can set up shipping classes in the WordPress backend by navigating to WP-Admin > Woocommerce > Settings > Shipping Classes.

b. Select the ‘Add shipping class’ button

c. Add a shipping class name, slug, and description (if desired). Once the required information has been entered, select ‘Save shipping classes’.

d. Once the shipping classes have been created, the marketplace admin can declare the classes globally (by default) or by individual products. To do so, navigate to WP Admin > Products > Edit (specific product) > Shipping > Shipping Class (dropdown).

Note that the shipping class can be overwritten by vendors from Vendor Dashboard in the edit product page of a given product by navigating to Products > Edit (specific product) > Shipping > Shipping Class (dropdown).

e. If desired, vendors can also configure the shipping zones from the shipping tab by navigating to Settings > Shipping > Select Shipping by Zone >  Select ‘Edit’ under the desired zone > Select ‘Edit’ under the desired shipping method.

Shipping by Distance #

In addition to zone, country, and weight, RecShare permits it’s users to set the shipping cost based on distance between from the shipping location to the recipient location.

Admin Settings #

The marketplace admin can enable/disable the Shipping By Distance option by navigating to Marketplace (from the admin dashboard) > Settings > Shipping Settings.  From here, select the checkbox next to Shipping By Distance to enable.

Once Shipping By Distance has been enabled, a new set of fields will appear where the marketplace admin can define default rules for all vendors. However, vendors can override these rules from their Shipping Settings panel in their dashboard.

Default Cost: This is the base shipping price for all products. If a default rule has been set up that matches the distance rule found, the amount entered into this field will be an additional cost on top of that rule. To only charge based on the standard rules, this field should be left empty.

Max Distance: A max distance for a product to be deliverable can be set here. For example, if this is set to 100, the product will only be deliverable up to 100 miles. This field should be left empty if you do not wish to set a max distance.

Free Shipping Minimum Order Amount: Orders placed greater than the amount entered into this field will receive free shipping.

Enable Local Pickup: Check this to enable the ‘Pickup from Store’ option for distance rate shipping.

Local Pickup Cost: The costs to pick up from the vendors location.

Distance-Cost Rules: You may create any number of rates based on specific distances. For example, up to 10 miles costs $5, 50 miles costs $15, and 100 miles costs $20. However, you must ensure that there are no other rules that will conflict with these.

Vendor Settings #

Vendors must enable the shipping option from their dashboard by following Settings > Shipping > Select ‘Enable shipping’.

Once enabled, vendors can configure the distance shipping rates from their dashboard by selecting ‘Shipping by Distance’ from the Shipping Type dropdown. Note that this option will only be available to the vendors only if ‘Shipping by Distance’ has been enabled by the marketplace admin. Once the Shipping by Country option has been enabled, vendors will be provided with the following configuration options.

In order for the shipping by distance to work, the marketplace admin must enable Location in the capability settings and vendors must enter their location by navigating to Settings > Location and finding their address in the Store Location map.
